In Nuria Mora’s first solo show in Mexico entitled Mango Chile, the Spanish artist presents a variety of eclectic artworks that result from her monthlong residency at Celaya Brothers Gallery. The pieces that make up the exhibition illustrate Nuria Mora’s impressions of her walks through the streets of one of the largest cities in the world. In Mango Chile, she translates the reflections that sprung from her coexistence with the urban environment to every one of the pieces made with various formats.

With the finesse that characterises her, Nuria Mora manages to extract the aesthetics from our everyday lives. She rescues graphic elements from the visual saturation of the markets and the streets, from that kaleidoscope of colors and flavors, and turns them into highly potent artworks.

At the same time, and taking the streets as a reference and inspiration, Nuria Mora reflects on her job as an artist. The series Boyas (Buoys) makes reference to the floating, protective object that remits the artist to the idea of making art as a form of therapy; while A Plomo highlights the significance of strength and perseverance in the artist’s self-definition. Thus, Mango Chile becomes a plastic poem which intertwines Nuria Mora’s interior world with the impact of this metropolis.
